Household Movers : Tips : Packing

Prior to moving day, please do the following to ensure the packing process is a smooth one:

• Set aside all items that need to be packed at the very end, such as the all-important coffee maker, or necessary items such as sheets and towels, laptops, electrical and computer cables/hookups, cell phones and chargers or those items which are not intended to be shipped.

• Separate all personal items, such as passports, travel documents and tickets which will be traveling with you. These items should be carefully stored in a separate container so they do not get packed accidentally. It can be very costly to retrieve these types of items once your shipment is packed. We recommend you designate one closet in which to keep those items and mark, “do not ship.”

• Since transit insurance does not cover money or jewelry, we recommend storing those articles in a safe, secure place.

How will the movers ensure the goods are properly packed and stored for shipment?

• Your household goods will be individually wrapped in our five-ply padded paper before being packed into the appropriate containers, designed to carefully cushion and safeguard your possessions. Crates can be custom built for items that require extra protection during international shipping. Standard goods will be packed with protective “bubble” wrapping and specialized cartons.

• Aarid insists upon providing top-quality materials and professional packers in order to protect your shipment during the transit process. On that note…

Did you know? Aarid is an Industry Pioneer in Packing

Donald Dailey, whose entrepreneurial spirit propelled our family’s business to global success, worked with local paper suppliers to pioneer one of the industry’s most important innovations, multi-ply paper padding.* This helps to cushion and protect a shipment during international transportation, allowing loose goods to be packed together directly into ship’s containers, and saves the cost, weight and volume used up by wooden crates. The innovation also improved delivery efficiency by allowing containers to be filled and distributed more quickly. Aarid continues to embrace new technology and cost-saving and efficiency methods in the spirit of our father’s ingenuity.

What happens when the crew is finished packing?

• Aarid's driver will prepare an inventory at the time of packing and loading. This inventory list will include brief descriptions of the contents of each carton as well as those of wrapped furniture.

• You will be asked to sign the completed inventory list once the crew finishes packing. This is an important document, so safeguard your copies as they are necessary to finalize the clearance procedure at your destination

• Aarid will provide you with all of your shipping details. We’ll confirm the vessel name or flight number if your shipment is moved by air, the estimated time of arrival at port or airport and the name of ocean carrier’s agent at your destination.
